[新聞] [新加坡] Drama to educate and promote social change

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Drama Educators Association (SDEA) kicked off the four-day SDEA Theatre Arts Conference 2011 with a networking dinner on Thursday night.

Held at the LASALLE College of the Arts, the inaugural SDEA Theatre Arts Conference 2011 aims to serve as a platform for participants to share their ideas and knowledge, as well as examine how to apply the theatre arts to education, therapy and community building.

50 presenters from 12 countries will conduct a series of workshops and presentations during the event.

Highlights include presentations by Dr Helen Cahill from Australia, on using drama to effect social change, and Patrice Baldwin from the UK, on using drama as a teaching tool.

The Down Syndrome Association (Singapore) Drama Group will also present two short plays - "The Mice Wedding" and "Treasures from the Dragon Palance" from 1-1.30pm on Saturday.

In addition, the Association of Indonesian Migrants and Youths will stage a lunchtime performance of vignettes about eight Indonesian workers in Singapore, on Sunday at the same time slot.

Registration for the SDEA Theatre Arts Conference 2011 is now open.
