[UNESCO] Multi-Disciplinary Research in the Arts: Call for Paper

CALL FOR PAPERS
MULTI-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH IN THE ARTS
SPECIAL YOUTH PARTICIPATION EDITION

The UNESCO Observatory refereed e-journal, Multi-Disciplinary Research in the Arts, is based within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at The University of Melbourne. The e-journal  is a clearing house of research  which serves to improve practice in the arts, influence policy making, and benefit the integration of the arts in formal and non-formal educational systems across communities, regions and countries.

This special edition of the journal will be edited by Dr Lucas Walsh and Rosalyn Black from The Foundation for Young Australians.

We are looking for informative and thought-provoking papers that challenge or shed light on the participation of young people in the arts. In particular, we welcome papers that address young people’s active role in the arts and that position them not only as the target audience but as leaders and initiators of arts programs and initiatives.

Papers are invited that address:
  • The use of the arts to engage young people, including innovative and culturally inclusive models of engagement
  • Patterns of youth participation in the arts
  • The experience of young people as leaders and initiators in the arts including arts organization and management
  • Barriers to youth participation in the arts and strategies to overcome these
  • The perceptions of young people of the role of the arts in their lives.
Contributions are welcomed from a wide range of disciplines across the arts, humanities and social sciences and in a wide range of formats that include articles, essays and reviews. Papers may describe research in progress as well as completed research. They may also describe projects or initiatives that are relevant to the scope of the edition.

PAPERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 31 JULY 2011.
